How to write an effective essay?
Essay writing is not a piece of cake we think, but it is. We confuse about writing a good essay under different conditions. Sometimes in writing a creative essay, it becomes difficult to decide on a title so we can move further to what we are going to write. And another condition is when we are given a specific title and supposed to write a good essay on it. Both conditions need much knowledge about the topic. Well, it depends upon you how passionate you are and what is your goal behind doing all this. If you are a knowledge seeker and love to learn about various things and research them a lot until you get command of what you know, it would not be difficult for you. Here are some tips you can follow to make your essay more effective.
Tip 1: Focus on the topic
Got the title? Decided or provided? Both situations now need some major steps to be followed. Just throw out of your mind all the distracting thoughts and think you are talking to the reader through your words. Read the title again and again at least 4-5 times, focus on the title and try to understand the psyche of the reader to find how can you impress the person with your words. Most necessary is to have enough knowledge about the topic. Filter out all the major and minor points you know and make a rough sketch in your mind.
Tip 2: Write for the sake of writing
Most of the students just try to stock a mess of vocabulary and idioms in their minds or waste their time decorating their pages to impress the examiner. Moreover, they start writing so many unnecessary or irrelevant points just after carelessly reading the title. Remember that the title is the exact location where you are and the outline is the map you have to follow to reach your destination of conclusion. Write for the sake of writing not for the sake of competition with other students or writers. Just do not think that you are going to impress the examiner and grab the marks and that’s it. If you have command of your writing skills, it will impress the reader or the examiner. Because if you focus on impressions, marks, and outcomes during writing your essay, this may distract you from focusing on the topic. Better is if you decide what to do and how to do things before starting your essay.
Tip 3: Filter out the best knowledge
As discussed above, the most considerable thing is the level of knowledge that plays an important role in helping you while writing a good essay; the more you know, the best you write. Especially, if the essay is based on political, social, economic, scientific, technical, educational, or literature-related topics. Whether there is any other topic, all you need to know about it. Focusing on the word “knowledge” because if you know what you are going to write, you will try to know and search for it. You should know what is it actually so you can describe it better in your own words. Must search where does it come from, the reasons, advantages, disadvantages, the inventors discovered, leaders or innovators of the thing you are going to write about. Rather than writing descriptive stories, focus on what sort of details the topic needs and describe the things in your words.
Tip 4: Planning before writing
Outlining is a necessary step while writing an essay. It means to plan what you are going to do in your essay. You have read the title? Ok. You have filtered out the best you know about the given topic? OK. Now make a sequence of the details in your mind. Activate the best vocabulary related to the topic and structure your essay in a way that should be understandable. Do not use too much vocabulary after every 2 or 3 words to impress the reader rather than focusing on your major goal of writing. Just use relevant vocabulary and idioms when necessary. The outline of the essay is the format you are going to follow while writing it, so focus on it as a serious matter. You must remember the basic ingredients of the essay which are the introduction, body, and conclusion of the essay. Presenting it properly does not mean just decorating it with beautiful writing and good vocabulary, but also it means adorning it with a good writing style. The writing style is the major feature of your presentation, the formatting from introduction to conclusion, using paragraphs, headings, points, quotes, or examples where necessary. All the trick is just to understand what to use and where to use in which condition while writing an essay.
Tip 5: Plan to manage time
Try to think in the same language in which you are going to write. For example, if you are writing in English so try to think and plan your goal of writing in English. If you think in your native language, which is not the same as you are writing in an exam or elsewhere, it may take your time in thinking about translation and correction and then write it. Time management is also very necessary so divide your time and topics to complete it on time. Focus, focus and focus on the essential things to maintain your time.
Tip 6: Follow the created plan
Decision-making and planning procedure for writing is done? Now start writing. Concentrate now on the point you are writing and keep going on. Additional things regarding the topic, if come to your mind, keep arranging them in your mind to decide where to adjust them is better. Not each and everything should be written in a preceding paragraph so there will be no further thing to be added. Introduce the title properly, further details will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs. Just like you are going to turn on the stove not directly put the cooked dish into the plate. You have to arrange the ingredients and equipment, and then you can proceed to the practical. The same is the scenario with the essay.
Tip 7: Presenting the essay
Along with writing, keep expressing it appropriately with decent vocabulary, writing style, accurate and concise way, adding quotes, statements, examples, and proverbs related to the main title. Try to use a formal way of writing and use complete words instead of reductions such as I’ll, won’t, won’t, isn’t, doesn’t, instead, use their full forms. Need to write the full forms of the abbreviations as well if used. Highlight or underline the fundamental aspects you mentioned in paragraphs if needed. All the essays must be written in a way focusing on the main title. Remember not to quote the title again and again after some sentences, but use it occasionally when needed to make the reader or examiner focus on what is being discussed. Be comprehensive in choosing the words and analyzing the whole topic so there will be no errors in vocabulary, grammar, and description of the essay.
Tip 8: Read before concluding
The conclusion is the substantial component of the essay that is used in winding up the topic. What many students do is that they precisely describe what has been discussed in the essay and consider it finished. The word conclusion means concluding the whole essay that you have written. For this, follow the pre-planned essay outline, also read your essay, and analyze it. Try to find whatever you have described; what will be the outcome of it? It should be in your own words. Whatever the topic is, whether you discussed categories, strategies, features and flaws, causes, solutions, and suggestions. Avoid using “In this essay we discussed” or such sentences without any reason, keeping in mind that it is an essay not a reference to context or paraphrasing question. Just focus on the title and the major things you concluded. In short, find out whatever you found as an outcome of the discussion.
